A futuristic, interconnected urban landscape is becoming a reality in Shenzhen. Recently, the “Shenzhen Low-Altitude Smart Flight Demonstration Zone eVTOL Launch and Dapeng New District First Flight Test” marked a significant milestone in this journey, held at the picturesque Baisha Bay Park within the core launch area of the Shenzhen International Bio-Valley Baguang. eVTOLs—electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles—promise to transform urban mobility, bringing us closer to a world that once seemed confined to science fiction.
Hosted by the Kuichong Subdistrict Office of Dapeng New District and organized by Pengyou (Shenzhen) Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. and Kunpeng (Shenzhen) International Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., the event showcased the cutting-edge EH216-S unmanned passenger aircraft in a captivating demonstration flight. This advanced technology not only demonstrates the potential for safe, efficient urban air mobility but also sets the stage for future developments in smart aerial systems, aircraft exhibitions, and low-altitude tourism.
Cao Yue, head of Pengyou (Shenzhen) Aviation Technology Co., Ltd., highlighted the company’s nationwide efforts to establish eVTOL infrastructure. This includes takeoff and landing sites, aircraft exhibition centers, energy replenishment and maintenance stations, and automated aircraft hangars. Additionally, they have developed smart aerial mobility (SAM) equipment, takeoff and landing safety systems, and ground-based emergency command systems. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of Shenzhen Mobile’s 5G multi-frequency collaborative networking and BeiDou high-precision positioning, Pengyou is exploring diverse operational scenarios such as aerial tourism, urban commuting, emergency rescue, flying car camps, medical transport, and marine applications.
In 2023, the Shenzhen Municipal Committee recognized the strategic importance of the low-altitude economy by integrating it into the government work report and outlining a vision for building a low-altitude economic center. This forward-thinking approach is reflected in comprehensive plans like the “Shenzhen Low-Altitude Economy Industry Innovation Development Implementation Plan (2022-2025)” and the “Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Low-Altitude Economy Industry Promotion Ordinance.”
The Kuichong Subdistrict Office has been proactive in harnessing its unique mountain and maritime cultural tourism resources, seizing the opportunities presented by the rapid innovation and growth of the low-altitude economy. By fostering the establishment of low-altitude economy enterprises such as Yimin General Aviation (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., the area is quickly becoming a hub for new economic activities. The Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Team of Kuichong has been instrumental in this development, facilitating discussions with Pengyou (Shenzhen) Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. on event promotion, land supply, and corporate settlement, achieving preliminary cooperation agreements.
The successful test flight not only sets the stage for the upcoming “Shenzhen Low-Altitude Smart Flight Demonstration Zone eVTOL Launch and Dapeng New District First Flight Event” but also lays a solid foundation for the future integration of these enterprises in Kuichong.
This narrative of technological advancement and urban innovation paints a vivid picture of a near future where eVTOLs redefine our cities. By addressing current challenges with innovative solutions, this optimistic vision encourages us to imagine and embrace the possibilities of tomorrow.
